Getting Started Trading ROIO

Perhaps the most common question posed by newbies is “I don’t have anything to trade, so how can I get started?”.  It seems like a ‘chicken and the egg’ problem, but fear not!!  There are several simple methods that can be used to get started in trading.

1.  B&P (‘Blanks and Postage’)

This is perhaps the easiest method by which a newbie can get a collection started.  Simply put, you provide blank CDs or DVDs and return postage to an established trader, and they will make copies of shows for you.  Many traders started out their collections using this method, and they are quite willing to help fellow fans get their own collections started.  Step by step instructions can be found on our B&P Page.

2.  Cascade Methods (Weed, Vine, Tree, etc.)

These are methods in which someone mails a show to you, then you reciprocate by sending copies of the show to other people.  Even if you do not have the capability to copy discs, it may be possible to obtain some shows using this method.  The different names (e.g., weed, vine, etc.) indicate different methods of passing the shows on.  Specific details can be found on our Cascade Page.

3.  Direct Connect (e.g., The Rush Trading Hub)

If you have a reasonably fast internet connection and are comfortable with the idea of connecting to other computers on the internet, you may want to consider this method.  Essentially, you install a program on your computer which enables you to connect to a ‘hub’ of other computers.  You can then download files from any of these hub-connected computers, and they can download files from you (don’t worry, you choose the files that can be accessed on your computer).  There are many different Hubs on the internet, but there is one that is dedicated specifically to Rush ROIO.  Rules of use and step-by-step instructions for getting started on The Hub can be found on our Hub Page.

4. BitTorrent

This is similar to Direct Connect in that you download from others and they can download from you.  The program that you use and the downloading technology are different however.  This technique can be faster than Direct Connect depending on the number of users that are sharing a particular show, and video files are shared using this method more often than on The Hub.  BitTorrent sites are usually not organized around one specific artist, so there will be more variety but less Rush-specific shows than you will find on The Hub.  Step-by-step instructions for getting started can be found on our BitTorrent Page.
